Did you use the correct dive letter for your drive? e: was just an example.

after doing these steps for my externam hdd,the cmd said the drive the path or the file is not valid now

I’d like to note that you’ll probably want to move your data to a brand new drive. Maxtors are notoriously bad, and this is probably an indicator that your drive is about to croak
